Ross
Conkey
Educator · Writer · Filmmaker
I teach screenwriting and filmmaking at the University of Redlands, and keep a working slate of my own scripts, teleplays, and short films going alongside it.
For over a decade I've split my time between the classroom, the writer's desk, and the edit bay, treating each as a version of the same problem: how to keep an audience watching, reading, or paying attention. My screenplays and teleplays have reached the quarterfinals of the Nicholl Fellowship; my short films and documentaries were written, shot, and cut start to finish; and the screenwriting and filmmaking courses I built from scratch at the University of Redlands are still the ones I teach every year.
"Teach the scene, not the summary." Working motto, since roughly forever
